Our Wines

“When we were kids, we used to go harvesting; we had our own grapes in the middle of a Merlot vineyard. There were about ten white grapevines that either went bad or were eaten by the birds. My cousin Robert and I would pick those ten vines and make our own wine with a small press. We bottled it in the old chicken coop and had just one paying customer: our grandmother. We were ten years old. That’s when we first started to understand what it really meant to grow grapes and then make wine.”

Matej Fiegl

At Fiegl, every bottle is a milestone achieved, and we let the wine speak for us. About family, history, Oslavia, and theCollio region. Of our desire to explore and look beyond the boundaries.

Since 1782, we have produced four different lines every year: Fiegl, Leopold, Villa Dugo, and other wines.

Why is the quality of FIEGL wines so high?

The cultivation style adopted in our vineyards guarantees a minimal environmental impact: production is limited inquantity, respecting the natural capacity of the grapevine. Let nature take its course and carefully harvest the grapes.
In this way, we guarantee that the wines will enhance the terroir expressed by the Oslavia cru and convey the culture andtradition of Collio.

What type of soil is there in Oslavia?

Oslavia is our home. A village of 150 inhabitants located on the eastern foothills of the Collio. An area rich in history andstories: The presence of numerous vineyards suggests the special bond that exists between the farmer and the land, themutual respect shared for centuries.
The ventilated microclimate, temperature fluctuations, and suitable temperatures are ideal for growing grapes, which isalso favored by the type of soil, commonly called ponca. Soil composed of eoceneorigin sandy and marly layers.Thegreatest expression of this union between people and nature is certainly wine, a reflection of the passion, tradition, anddedication of numerous generations.

What is the most representative wine?

It’s always difficult to answer this question: every wine has its own story, its own character, and it responds to specificcharacteristics, butif we want to give an answer to this question, we think that Ribolla Gialla is the wine that more thanany other manages to synthesize our territory and our philosophy.
A glass as simple as the people of Oslavia and at the same time as deep as the history of this corner of Italy between thesea and the mountains, suspended between past and future, with a strong personality, capable of captivating you with eachsip.

FIEGL Line

Authentic. Original. Elegant. The FIEGL line is the one that best represents our family and its members. It speaks of uswith native and foreign grape varieties from which we produce seven white wines and three red wines. The vineyards arethose of the DOC Collio, which we cultivate and harvest by hand only, due to the difficult terrain known as Ponca, amixture of marl and sandstone rocks stratified of Eocene origin.

LEOPOLD Line

Leopold, named after Leopold Figl, the Austrian chancellor who signed the treaty between NATO and the Soviets. Ourline of wines aged in barrels or casks is dedicated to him. Elegant, complex wines that unite and bring everyone together, transcending borders.

VILLA DUGO Line

At Villa Dugo vineyards, which are part of the Friuli Isonzo and Friuli DOC, we give voice to our most important values: sincerity, respect, and sustainability. We cultivate native and international grape varieties. Thanks to the alluvial soil ofthe two DOCs, the wines are fresh and immediate. Each label is characterized by a different animal.
